Growing up in Arizona, Alexis spent most of her free time roaming the drug store aisles looking at products. She has tried every product under the sun. The best part of her adventurous energy is that now that she's tried it all, you don't have to.

Hi Alexis! Where are you from?

I am from Arizona but was born in New York.

That’s a lot of dry air. How did you get into skincare?

Honestly, I’ve been into skincare since I was young. I was about 14 when I started using products, buying lots of cleansers at Walgreens. I was just experimenting with any product I could get my hands on. I wanted to look as pretty as I could! Being a Skin Therapist is my first career. Before this, I tried to get into fashion but I was like, “uh no.” I wanted to be a personal stylist and then I saw that math was involved and it was not for me! I’m much happier with this.

What about working with skin makes you so happy?

My favorite part is seeing the change in people’s attitudes from when they walk in, to when they leave and feel so much better about their skin and themselves.

Do you have any advice based on what you've seen with what makes clients so happy?

Make sure you’re not using a foaming cleanser. More often than not, it will strip the skin. Even if you decide to buy some $200 cream or moisturizer for after, it won’t penetrate because you will have created a dry barrier that it can’t get through. Make sure you’re starting with the right cleanser and setting the right tone for your routine. Nothing that suds up!

Is cleansing your favorite skincare topic?

Oh no, exfoliating is. I can go into really deep details in how it helps with cell turnover, especially if you have scarring, but I don’t want to keep you here all day. I’ll just say, over time, it really lifts away those scared layers.

What is your type of skin to work with?

I love transformations. I enjoy working with clients who have acne or who are in their mid-40s and worry that they can’t change their skin. You can always improve your skin and it’s always such an honor to help make that difference.

If you had a chance to tell a possible client one thing about you before booking with you, what would it be?

I’m a very down to earth person. Don’t be afraid to lay down and for me to touch your face. I know it can be scary but you’re in good hands. I’m here to help.

What is your favorite success story from the treatment room?

I recently had a client who had a pretty advanced acne condition. She was very red and sensitized. She didn’t have much hope that things would get better and I would tell her that we’re gonna work on it together but I knew that she felt nervous. Over, I want to say, four months, her acne started disappearing and one day, she came in and it was gone. I looked at her and was like, “your skin looks amazing.” She was so excited. She sent me all her photos and said, “please show all your clients that there is hope. That they shouldn’t give up.” I almost cried.

What are three things that you like that don't have to do with skin?

  • Dancing, I learned how to do the two-step recently and loved it. Ballroom dancing is my favorite though.
  • I love any reason to dress up!
  • I’m happiest when I’m laughing.
