How did you end up at Heyday?
I started as an esthetician in the South, and when I moved to New York, I knew I wanted to step into my field again. When I found Heyday, everything clicked. When they explained their values, I knew we were a match. I was looking for integrity and passion. I’m so glad I found them!
How long have you been here?
Nine months, and it’s gone by fast.
What has it been like to watch Heyday grow these last nine months?
I feel like I’m a part of the second generation at Heyday. When I arrived, they were just opening Tribeca, and now we’ve opened up an Upper East Side location! It’s so exciting to see the progression and new faces. It feels like a privilege to be a part of Heyday as it grows. I remember when the Upper East Side shop was just being whispered in the halls, and now it’s a reality!
What is your go-to skin tip that could apply to any skin type?
My one basic rule is to make sure that you are always protecting your skin. Sunscreen, antioxidants, in general, prevention is key! Sunspots and aging are a constant skin concern, but you can prepare ahead of time. In terms of health in general, it really does matter what you put into your body. Eat well and exercise – it sounds simple but it can make a big impact on your skin. You have to start from the inside.
Have you ever done something to your skin where you look back and think “hmm...maybe I shouldn’t have done that”?
All the time! When you work at Heyday surrounded by beautiful products it’s like being a kid in a candy store – but you shouldn’t eat too much candy. I love to study ingredients and how products affect the skin, so I’m very open to trying a bunch of different things. Sometimes I know a certain ingredient won’t work well on my skin, but I’m so curious, I just need to see what it does! I know this is hypocritical of me – I just said prevention is key – so I wouldn’t recommend our clients doing this, but I see it as research. I want to give my valid opinion about every single product.
So your skin is in the line of duty, so to speak?
Pretty much!
What is your favorite product at Heyday?
The One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil & Makeup Remover. When anyone approaches it, they automatically think “An oil? What do you mean?” because oil has a negative connotation and is associated with clogging pores. But it truly depends on the oil. This oil has enzymes in it, so it works as a light exfoliant. I think it’s wonderful to use an oil as a cleanser. It works into your skin nicely, it even light foams – I just love it, and use it everyday!
What other passions do you have, aside for your deep love of skincare?
I am an artist! Sometimes it’s cartoons, sometimes it’s still life. It shifts on how I’m feeling. It’s nice to take real life and transform it into art to find new perspective. I’m also really into personalities and studying human nature. I like observing human interaction, personal traits, and watching people function with other people.
Do you tailor your behavior around people based on the energy they give off to you?
Yes, I think you have to! You want to communicate the most effective way possible. It really helps at the front desk, when I meet so many different types of people. I try to match their energy level, because I want them to have an authentic interaction.
And of course, you love skin.
It’s not just an outer layer of you – it’s so much more. It is a reminder to care for yourself. When I’m not feeling right in my skin, I don’t feel great at all. Your skin reflects how you feel on the inside! It can indicate when you’re dehydrated, or not eating well, or stressed.
What’s your routine?
It changes on the day, actually. Almost always, it starts with the Vitamin B oil. Today, I used a gel cleanser with Vitamin C because my skin was on the oily side. I used a serum (because prevention is key, and we live in New York City!). I continued with my SPF, because it’s important to protect the skin and supply it with antioxidants. I was experiencing a little redness yesterday, so I finished off my routine with a bit of calming cream, which is full of antioxidants. But like I said, it really depends on the day!
Fill in the blank: ____day
Is it cliche if i say Great Day? It’s the day I’m having right now! No, wait, let me change it. New Day. You need to look forward to every day you have.
