Hi Ramnit! Where are you from?

I was born and raised in India.

So how did you get into skincare?

Back in India, I had a salon and spa. I used to teach skin and hair care. Then I came to America. I’ve been working in skincare for over 20 years. I also have a medical background, in phlebotomy.

Do you feel like skincare has changed a lot in the last 20 years?

Oh yeah, it’s way better now. It’s super easy now. Americans are more interested and understanding. I think these days even guys are more open to it, which is very good news, because many think they have the best skin and really could use some help!

What are the biggest problems you see with men?

Men usually have major problems with congestion, and sometimes acne. Guys get more congested because their pores are bigger and their hormones are different from women. They produce more oil. Also, and this is kind of gross, so I’m sorry, but I’ve noticed that guys don’t take care of behind their ears! One of the things I do during facials, always, is clean behind the ears. I think it’s the most smelly part of your body! You have more active glands back there and there is a lot of heat being generated.

Do you have any general advice based on what you've seen with clients (of all types and genders)?

Don't overwash your skin, or you'll strip it. There is this idea that oil is bad for the face, so people overwash to get rid of it. You should be adding good oil. The best and lightest oil, I would say, is rosehip oil. It’s good for just about any skin type, really. Its molecular size is smaller, so it penetrates the skin better. It’s also good for breakouts, anti-aging, and dry skin. I’d recommend mixing hyaluronic acid and rosehip oil.

Hyaluronic has really grown as a heavy hitter in skincare.

Hyaluronic is the number one thing but everyone penetrates on the different level, so you have to have use different amounts of it depending. Some people can handle heavy, and some people are better off with lighter amounts. I recommend starting lighter and working your way up.

How would you describe the style of your work?

I’m nurturing to my clients. I go with their lifestyles and I don’t like to judge them. I’m also very creative, so I mix a lot of products to create something unique.

What are three things that you like that don't have to do with skin?

  • I like to create. My diploma is in fine art. I paint watercolor landscapes.

  • Traveling is my favorite thing and I would happily go anywhere in the world!

  • I love history and culture. I’ll read anything about it.

Fill in the blank: ________Day

In India, we use British English so Heyday means, “Happy-day.”
