What It’s Like To Get A Heyday Facial

Never been to Heyday, but curious what to expect during your first facial? Or maybe you’re a regular, but want to learn something new? Take a peek behind the curtain as our experts break down how a Heyday facial works—from how to book to post-facial care.

What Should I Know Before I Go?

To book a Heyday facial, either book an appointment online or call the shop location you’re interested in. Then, get ready for your treatment!

If you’re using a topical prescription (like a retinol!), pause use three days before your treatment. In terms of what to wear, we suggest something comfy that doesn’t cover your neck! (Jeans are fine, jumpsuits are fine, wear an evening gown if you’d like—you won’t be undressing at any point, so stick to what feels good.)

How Do I Check In?

If it’s your first time here, you’ll complete a skin history form that informs your Skin Therapist (a.k.a. your esthetician!) of any skin conditions or allergies you may have. The information you provide plus the notes your esthetician takes during each facial will be stored in a secure profile, so every time you come in, your expert can help put your best face forward.

What Happens During The Treatment?

Your esthetician will greet you in the waiting area when it’s time for your appointment before guiding you to your treatment room. There will be space to stash any bags, coats, or belongings, plus charge your phone if you’d like.

Keep in mind, Heyday isn’t a “spa”—rooms are semi-private, music will be playing over the speakers (our co-founder/playlist creator describes our soundtrack as “modern soul meets downtempo electro”), and you will not be getting undressed and into a robe.

Instead, you’ll get comfortable on your treatment bed and simply enjoy your facial. If you’d like an extra layer of comfort or warmth, we do have freshly laundered blankets available, so feel free to ask or accept when your Skin Therapist offers you one. Once you’re settled  in, the first step is an oil cleanse to remove products like sunscreen and makeup, so we have a fresh canvas to work with.

“We'll do a full skin analysis. We're looking for your skin type and any conditions present on the skin to assess how we can achieve your skin goals,” says Heyday Skincare Educator Chrissy Carrano.

This is a dynamic analysis, meaning you’ll be encouraged to voice your own personal skin goals and your at-home routine so we can understand what you’re used to, what feels attainable, and find any gaps along the way. A key part of the Heyday facial is the education component; your esthetician will point out important elements and ingredients they utilize during the treatment, as well as tips you can take home with you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you have!

Based on their analysis, your esthetician will map out your unique treatment—from the products they’ll be using to any enhancements they recommend.

From here on out, your experience is entirely tailored to you and your skin. This could include any of the following: professional exfoliation, a series of mask treatments, extractions, and facial massage. Just close your eyes and relax.

Facial massage is my favorite part of a treatment because it is so calming and relaxing for both me and my client. A sleeping client just lets me know I’m doing a good job,” says Heyday Skin Therapist Veronica Rodriguez.

What About Enhancements?

Your Skin Therapist may have recommended an enhancement, which you opt in and out of to be added to elevate your facial. Our enhancements include:

  • Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion: This physical (and chemical, depending on your skin!) exfoliation uses diamonds to brighten & even tone while rejuvenating congested, dull skin.
  • Hydro Wand Infusion: Focus on the areas needing extra TLC with this infusion wand, ideal for delivering instant hydration & potent formulas deep into the skin.
  • Microcurrent: Targeted probes use electric currents to help promote circulation & collagen production while toning your facial muscles for a lifted, refreshing glow.
  • Professional Peel: Tackle hyperpigmentation, breakouts & fine lines with this chemical exfoliation.
  • LED Light Therapy: Stimulate skin calls, calm inflammation and help reduce the  appearance of fine lines with restorative red light therapy.
  • Gua Sha: An ancient Chinese massage technique that detoxifies and lifts skin by increasing lymphatic flow and toning facial muscles.

    How Do I Check Out?

If the sun is out, your Skin Therapist will apply sunscreen and lip balm as a final step, or just the latter if it’s nighttime. Then, you’ll be guided to the waiting area, where your esthetician may show you any products they recommended during your treatment. Take your time browsing our shelves, asking questions, and seeing if anything sticks out to you. When it’s time to check out, our hosts will ring you up for your treatment, gratuity, and products.

    What Should I Know Post-Facial?

You’ll be sent a recap of your facial via email! Your Skin Therapist may add a few notes  alongside product recommendations they may have for your routine.

Here are our top FAQs we get about the post-facial experience:

Can I wear makeup? Feel free to apply makeup after a facial, but we recommend being extra thorough with sanitation to avoid undoing any of the benefits from your recent facial. Clean makeup brushes are always your friend!

Can I work out? Our facials are very safe, so you'll be able to go right back to your activities. That being said, we don't recommend exercising immediately after facials in which you've received microdermabrasion or a peel.

What should I know if I’ve received a Peel or Microderm treatment? If you’ve received one of these enhancements, there are a few things to keep in mind! From how to deal with skin “purging” to which topicals to avoid, take a look through our Peel & Microderm FAQ page.

    See You Next Month!

We recommend coming in for a facial each month, as this is in sync with your skin cells’ turnover cycle. This way, your Skin Therapist gets to work with a fresh layer each time and we can keep progressively working toward your skin goals. See you in the shop soon!
